Connecting HIV+ Communities to Support Groups in Tanzania

Date:
Synopsis:
In Tanzania, more than 1 million adults live with HIV and more than 3 million children are orphaned due to AIDS. When Rose Kosuri was diagnosed with HIV, she almost gave up on life until she found a local group for people living with HIV (PLHIV). The PLHIV group connected Rose to health and social welfare services, gave her emotional support, and helped her become financially independent. JSI's Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP), supported by USAID, worked with PLHIV groups and clusters to strengthen their outreach to PLHIV, connecting them to testing, treatment, and other support services. This work is in direct support of Tanzania's goal to reach the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals. The Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP), supported by USAID, used a systems strengthening approach in line with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) goals to assist the Government of Tanzania to control the HIV epidemic.
