Ensuring the Health of HIV Positive Community Members, Tanzania

Date:
Synopsis:
To reach the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals and eradicate HIV, governments need to be able to reach their most vulnerable citizens and connect them to testing, counseling, and care. In Tanzania, JSI worked with the government to revitalize local community support groups, to identify those at risk of contracting HIV and connect them to health, social welfare, and protection services. Watch the video to learn how Jane, the chairperson of a local PLHIV group strengthened by JSI, leads her community support group that reaches out to people at risk for HIV and links them testing and treatment. The Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP), supported by USAID, used a systems strengthening approach in line with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) goals to assist the Government of Tanzania to control the HIV epidemic.
