Eradicating HIV in Tanzania Through Community AIDS Committees

Date:
Synopsis:
Meet James Dogani, secretary of his multi-sectoral AIDS committee (MAC), a local government group responsible for coordinating the community's HIV response. JSI's Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP), funded by USAID, revitalized more than 3,000 MACs in councils across Tanzania and built their capacity to link community members to HIV testing, counseling, and treatment. MACs are part of the engine driving Tanzania to achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals. The Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP), supported by USAID, used a systems strengthening approach in line with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) goals to assist the Government of Tanzania to control the HIV epidemic.
